The on Monda y announced recipients of the second and final roune of Diesel EmissionsReduction grants, a $19.8 millionn program created in 2008. The firsy round sent nearly $7.3 million to 10 organizations, includingh the , operator of the region’as bus system. In the winners disclosed Dublin was clearedfor $464,6588 while the Columbus school system received a $918,020 grant. Officialds from Dublin and the school districgt told thestate they’re usinbg the money to replace vehicles with lower-emissionn alternatives.
Dublin plans to replace eigh 1999- or 2000-model short-haul diesel trucks, while the school district is using its grant to replace 15 buses producecdin 1990. Projects that receivedx awards are required to put up at leasft 20 percent of the cost in matching The grant program looks specificalluy at public and private diesel equipment ownersx in Ohio counties that fall shortf of airquality standards. The largest grant amongg the 16 went to the and to refig four locomotives withnew engines. That Cincinnati-area projecr was awarded $4.6 million.
