Raleigh-based Progress (NYSE: PGN) said the goal of its new SunSensde program is to increase the amount of solar energy produced in its Carolinas and Florida territoriexs by more than 100 megawatte over thenext decade. The companu intends to reach that goal by offeringv a series of incentivesand rebates. Progress will pay commercial customersx the going market rate foreach killowat-hour of electricit produced by newly installed solar powerd systems. This program will debut in the Carolinas this summefr and in Floridanext year. • Also starting this summert is a program that will provide incentives for Progress’ business customerss to install solar water heaters.
That prograkm will not be availablein • For residential customers, Progress Energt will pay $1.50 to $2 per watt for residentiak solar installations. That should cover aboug 25 percent of theinstallation cost, Progress said.
