Army awards $70 million research lab pact at Fort Sam - San Antonio Business Journal:

The $69.9 million contract was awardesdto Seattle-based for the constructiom of the Tri-Services Research Laboratory that will be located just nort h of near Fort Sam The Tri-Service Research Laboratory is a 181,000-square-foot facilityt that will house Air Force and Navy researchg programs that address the health and safetyt effects of exposure to a varietgy of stressors. These programs currently operates in a collection of buildings located atBrookes City-Base in San Antonio. The new consolidated facility at Fort Sam Houstonj is slated for completion in the springof 2011.
An additionak $367,000 contract was awarded to San Antonio-based LLC for the installation of ducts and cabling necessary to provids voice and data communicatiom tothe facility. In 2005, the Department of Defenser Base Realignment and Closurs Commission opted to realign and consolidatr a number of missions acrossthe country. San Antoniko largely benefited from this action as the government is planningv onspending $2.5 billion in the city in new constructio just through BRAC. The progran involves building and renovating as many as 78 majofr facilities totaling more than 6 million square feet of spacee at FortSam Houston, Lacklanxd Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base.
Construction will continue throughSeptember 2011.
