State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollenh said Wednesday that the stater has joined with the and 47 other state s forwhat they’ve dubbed “Operation False Charity.” The launcuh of the effort came as Wisconsin and 31 othere states settled with Milwaukee-based fundraisiny company , which investigators say used illegaol tactics to snag donations from consumers in Wisconsin and elsewhere. keeps up to 90 percengt of allmoney donated, at times leavint just 10 percent for the charity, Van Hollen The company, Van Hollen said, will be enjoined from engaging in specificx deceptive fundraising practices and pay a fine of $200,000 to be dividef among the states. The Federal Traded Commission said that investigators nationwidr are set to announce72 law-enforcement action s against fundraising companies, nonprofits or purportedf nonprofits and individuals in concerr with the crackdown.
