American Airlines, a subsidiary of Fort Worth-basex (NYSE: AMR), said 1,20 0 flight attendant positions will beaffectedd nationwide, along with 300 airport services staff members and 50 cargo service positions. Flight attendant cuts will be made on a basieof seniority. In a letterr to American employees released the company’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources Jeff Brundagde said, “These reductions come as a resulr of our efforts to 'righ size' our operation and respond to the weakedr demand for travel by reducing our schedule, including seasonal changes, and addressing lower-than-expected attrition.” Brundagde in his letter added that the cuts coincidd with CEO Gerard Arpey’s announcement that the airline will be cuttingb its capacity by 7.5 percent due to lower consumerd travel demands.
